JOB TITLE: Instrument Room/Central Supply and Sterile Processing Technician (Core Technician) REPORTS TO: Surgery Center Manager FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt JOB OVERVIEW: Responsible for decontamination and reprocessing of instruments and reusable sterile supplies. Responsible for preparation of case carts, maintaining surgeon’s preference cards and supplies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Attends in-services and seminars to maintain current knowledge of job discipline. 2. Adhere to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for confidentiality, Infection Control, safety (OSHA), attendance, punctuality and personal appearance. 3. Ability to assist in establishing and maintaining a quality assurance program for the decontamination room. 4. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification/Licensure: Sterile Processing Certification preferred. Experience: Minimum one (1) year central processing/instrument room experience. Skills: 1. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. 2. Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions. 3. Working knowledge of all phases of instrument decontamination and sterilization/central processing to include theory, practice and standards. Certification preferred. 4. Ability to assist in developing and maintain department quality assurance. 5. Ability and willingness to flex work hours as needed or requested by manager.
Other Requirements: 1. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to perform duties. 2. Knowledge of surgical equipment, individual instruments and sets, including proper care and handling. 3. Ability to react calmly and effectively in all situations. 5. Ability to interpret, and apply guidelines and procedures. 6. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing. 7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, management and peers.
Physical Requirements: Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone. Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens. Other: Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids.
