| JOB OVERVIEW: |
Conducts routine tests used in diagnosis and treatment of disease. |
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
1. Perform routine medical laboratory testing procedures using a variety of laboratory instrumentation.
2. Maintain proper quality control procedures.
3. Perform quality control checks of instrumentation against established standards.
4. Establish and maintain effective working relationship with patients, medical staff and the public.
5. Operate the laboratory information system.
6. Support staff on all shifts and satellite laboratories. Must be able to work extended hours when necessary.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintain a safe and appropriate work area. Maintain inventory of supplies.
2. Adhere to employer work practices as described in TDC Occupational Exposure Plan policy.
3. Obtain blood specimens by venipuncture.
4. Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
5. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
6. Work as a team member within the laboratory department and all other departments.
7. Document work processes as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program.
Certification/Licensure:
1. Registration with an accredited MLT organization, i.e. ASCP.
2. Current CPR certification.
Experience: Minimum two (2) years experience in a clinical laboratory.
Skills:
1. Ability to perform in all areas of the laboratory including, but not limited to, microbiology, hematology, chemistry and coagulation.
2. Ability to work independently.
3. Ability to obtain blood specimens by venipuncture.
4. Ability to operate a variety of laboratory instrumentation.
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, management and peers.
6. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage interactions with difficult people.
7. Excellent telephone skills.
Other Requirements:
1. Knowledge of current medical terminology.
2. Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform routine laboratory tests.
3. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentation.
4. Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
5. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing.
6. Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.
7. Maintain current CPR.
Physical Requirements:
Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.
Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
Vision: Requires eye sight correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment. Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens. Requires normal color perception.
Other: Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted.
Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift. Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all department equipment. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
